About This Spot

Stepping into Shiromaru on Crooks Road, you’re immediately embraced by a bustling, intimate energy that hints at a passionate local favorite. The pace is lively, almost communal, with diners squeezing in side-by-side like they’re old friends sharing stories rather than strangers just meeting over a meal. There’s a tangible warmth in the air — from the steady hum of conversation to the inviting aroma of rich broths and fresh seafood.

This isn’t a place where you linger over hours of conversation; it’s more of a vibrant, satisfying pause in the day where the food takes center stage. The atmosphere feels unpolished yet sincere, with a touch of that happy hustle that comes from a spot clearly loved by its neighborhood and beyond. Tables fill quickly, and the rhythm is one of constant movement — a playful mix of tradition and casual comfort where each bowl of ramen or roll of sushi carries a little story of craftsmanship.

What sets Shiromaru apart is the seamless balance between the hearty and the delicate. The ramen broth, often creamy and layered with touches like black garlic sauce, offers a comforting depth that invites you in like a warm embrace on a cool evening. Meanwhile, the sushi rolls and bowls burst with fresh brightness and thoughtfully layered flavors — a refreshing counterpoint to the rich ramen experience. Hidden gems like the fried chicken bun sandwich or pork belly rice bowl reveal the kitchen’s playful edge, showing there’s more than just a standard menu here.

Shiromaru’s vibe is energized but approachable, where sharing tables echoes the community spirit of Troy’s dining scene. In the midst of the weekend rush, there’s a kind of bustling neighborhood dance: servers work swiftly, patrons find their seats, and the clinks of chopsticks and soy sauce bottles punctuate the steady flow. It’s a space built not on polished quietude but on shared moments layered with warmth, good flavors, and the comforting hum of togetherness.

I recently tried Shiromaru, and overall, it was a decent experience. I came mainly for the ramen, which I thought was just okay. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it didn’t stand. The broth was a bit on the lighter side, and the flavor didn’t fully hit that rich, comforting depth I was hoping for. What did surprise me, though, were the sushi and chicken teriyaki rice bowl, both were actually really good. The sushi tasted fresh and well-prepared, with clean presentation and good texture. The chicken teriyaki bowl was flavorful and nicely portioned, with tender chicken and just the right amount of sauce over the rice. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, and service was friendly and fairly quick. Overall, I’d say Shiromaru is a solid spot if you’re craving a mix of Japanese dishes, especially sushi or teriyaki. The ramen didn’t blow me away, but the other menu items made the visit worthwhile.

The Tonkotsu creamy pork bone broth blended with the black garlic sauce is one of the best Ramen's I've ever had. I went back twice in one week! Only thing is they could clear tables off much faster so new guest can sit without used dishes in front of them and clean tables. But overall food is amazing and clearly I'd go back again and again.

Friday night at 7p is SO busy! As first timers we had no idea! Waited in line to order for 30 minutes. You order as you walk in and fingers crossed on seating. They really cram everybody in- like sharing a table with strangers. Sharing napkins and soy sauce with them. The waitress pulled a couples 4 top table into a 2 top for us and it was snug! I don't see anybody commenting about that... it really kills the vibe of being able to sit and feel comfortable dining sitting lunchroom style. Otherwise, we got the classic bowls and the classic crunchy yellow tail sushi. The bowls were delicious and knocked our socks off! So much ramen to enjoy. The sushi was good but boring. I wouldn't get another classic sushi if i went back, but my friends was super good!! I would go back for sure, but absolutely not during prime time.

Absolutely delicious! The sushi was super fresh, and the ramen broth was rich and flavorful. Everything tasted authentic and well-balanced. It can get a bit busy, so plan your visit accordingly but totally worth it!

The ramen and sushi were excellent, I've been here a few times and it has never disappointed. Service was very fast, food came out quick, good variety of unique drinks and meals. Would highly recommend.

I can’t stop thinking about this ramen —the pork belly alone delivered one of the most decadent flavor profiles I’ve ever experienced I clearly wasn’t the only one who felt that way; the moment we sat down, a line stretched from the register all the way to the door and even spilled outside. It was truly a full sensory experience, and the perfect dish to warm your body, mind, and soul during this cold Michigan winter.

We went to Shiromaru looking for ramen reminiscent of what we ate in Japan. This definitely hit the spot and exceeded our expectations. The ramen was amazing, the staff was efficient and kind, and the food was served hot and fast. There was about a 30 minute wait for a table but the line moved quickly. The wait is worth it for the thick tender slices of pork! I will definitely be coming back!

We were in on Black Friday, the place had a huge line, but that didn't phase this team. The cashier was doing an amazing job keeping the line, phone and take out orders flowing. You can tell they have a cohesive team that works well. Place was really clean and bussers did a good job of flipping tables. The rolls are amazing, Red Tiger and temp mango were our favorites of the 6 we tried. All were amazing
